Prior to the adoption of intercollegiate athletic programs at East Georgia College, many of our area’s most promising young student athletes were denied the benefits of competing on the intercollegiate level. Many were overlooked by larger schools from other areas and some, either through choice or because of circumstance, were unable to leave home to fulfill their dreams. There are too many stories of young athletes who gave up on education all together when sports were taken out of the picture. East Georgia College is working to make those young peoples’ dreams become a reality through our athletic programs. However, our baseball and softball teams currently have to travel off-campus to play at recreational fields that do not meet intercollegiate specifications. The Swainsboro Recreational Department has gone above and beyond to accommodate us, but this is not a long term solution. We cannot sustain successful programs without an on-campus facility.

 

Our young people need a field that will make them and our community proud. 

 

 

East Georgia College proposes to build an athletic complex that will meet the needs of our growing college and athletic program, baseball and softball fields that any young person would be proud to call their own. The Bobcat Athletic Complex will meet the needs of not only the College’s teams and students, but would also benefit the surrounding areas by offering a top rate facility for use by youth baseball and softball teams. In building these facilities we are raising the bar for our College and our students, encouraging all to reach for their dreams.

 

 

Athletics are integral components of the educational, cultural and physical experience of today’s students, and competition can become an arena for community involvement and civic pride. East Georgia College believes that the lessons learned through competition in athletics can provide lifelong benefits for our students and that many of life’s most important lessons are learned outside of the classroom. Built on a foundation of teaching discipline, teamwork, and hard work as a means to success, our athletic department strives to be a launching pad to success for the young people we serve. Athletics at EGC add a new dimension to the college experience for all of our students, changing the fabric of their relationship with the College and helping us to recruit and retain top students and faculty. Bobcat Athletics will enhance the sense of tradition and legacy that our students have with the College, creating a new generation of alumni who feel a close connection to EGC.

 

 

This is an exciting time in the history of EGC. The addition of intercollegiate athletics, a community learning center and, in the very near future, student housing signifies the College’s commitment to growth in an uncertain economic climate.  We are now poised to build upon the vision established by the original group of founders of Emanuel County Junior College and make EGC a sustaining economic force for the area. Much of the ground work for this project has already been done. There is a strong desire to see this dream realized but the College cannot do this alone. We need private individuals from our surrounding areas to step up and help make this happen. People who feel that private funding for our athletic complex is a capital investment in our community; one that will provide benefits for this area in the years to come. Our students need these kinds of opportunities now more than ever, as there are so many negative forces in society that are working against them. Through involvement in sports, we are truly helping our students become people of strong character. We can help make dreams of success happen. Help us make this “field of dreams” a reality.
